Over four dozen ‘Maoist victims’ were arrested from a protest rally at the Ministers; Quarters in Pulchowk, Lalitpur, Sunday.

The protesters were preparing for a sit-in demonstration today morning when police interfered and arrested them. All the arrested were kept at a police post in Jawlakhel. They were released after a couple of hours.

The Maoist victims had also attempted to enter inside the Ministers’ Quarters but were stopped by the police. After the incident, some demonstrators, who were not arrested, burnt tyres and disrupted the traffic for some time. Two police vans were damaged when the agitators hurled stones on them.

The Maoist victims have been protesting since last few months demanding rehabilitation, compensation and free treatment to those injured and disabled during the Maoist insurgency. They have also demanded that the government provide them employment.

The government and the Maoists have repeatedly asked the displaced people to return to villages as the situation has been normalised but the Maoist victims say the situation is not yet favourable as the Maoists have not returned their looted properties.
