At least four persons died and over a dozen were others injured in road accidents in Jhapa and Tahanun districts Monday.
Three persons were killed when a bus carrying Maghesakranti revellers to Kankai, Jhapa district, from Morang’s Indrapur overturned on the road this morning, reports said.
12 years old Laxmi Choudhary of Indrapur died on the spot while Rabi Rishidev of Indrapur and Dhyan Bahadur Rai of Amardaha, Morang district, died at a local hospital during treatment.
Thousands of revellers and religious pilgrims join the fair in Kankai on the occasion of Maghesakranti, the first day of the Nepali month of Magh. Some injured persons have been undergoing treatment in Damak and Dharan.
In a similar accident at Nala area in Tahanu district, along the Prithivi Highway, one person died and 13 others injured when a microbus carrying pilgrims from Pokhara skidded off the road and fell into a gorge this morning. The victim of the accident has been identified as Chandra Kumari Gurung, 65, of Pokhara.
The bus was heading for Debghat, a religious shrine in Tahanun where Madhesakranti fair is oranised on the day. The injured persons have been admitted at Laxmi Hospital in Dumre.
