Tribhuvan University (TU) staffers who had been carrying out strike at the TU central office and affiliated campuses over the past several days, demanding appointment of top administrative officials, have called off their protest programmes.
Members of the TU Employees’ Struggle Committee told a press conference in the capital Sunday that the strike has been called off after the government gave written commitment to address their demands. Regular works will resume from Monday, they said.
The TU employees had earlier met with the Prime Minister and held several rounds of negotiation with government representatives over their demands and finally arrived at an understanding.
They had padlocked the TU vice chancellor’s office, TU Exam Controller’s Office and the administrations of affiliated campuses to protest the delay in appointing senior administrative officials including the VC.
The delay in appointment has affected regular works like exams and convocations, according to the employees.
