Japan extends grant assistance

The government of Japan has approved the utilisation of Rs 537 million under the Counterpart Fund of Non-Project Grant Aid (NPGA) for implementing various projects in the current Fiscal Year.

The projects covered by the grant include Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Development of Rural Areas (including Rural Infrastructure, Road Transport and Electrification), Suspension Bridge Division Project, Pilot Community Based Rural Bridge Programme, Sindhuli Road Upgrading Project, Ilam Rural Electrification,Drinking Water and Sanitation, Disaster Management, Education among other.

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) will implement rural electrification project in Ilam district in order to distribute electricity to eleven VDCs for the purpose of promoting rural economy such as through tourism and local industries, as well as achieving an increased access to electricity.
