Police firing kills protester in Sarlahi

At least one person has been killed when the police fired at demonstrators after the scuffle between the members of the Chure Bhawar Ekta Samaj and police in Sarlahi Saturday morning became uncontrollable.

The scuffle erupted after the Ekta Samaj cadres burnt down two cargo trucks escorted by the police to the east. The Ekta Samaj hurled stones at the police protesting the escorting they were providing to vehicles during the bandh. In response, the police fired several rounds of bullets to disperse the agitators.

The deceased has been identified as Mangal Bahadur Gurbachan, a member of the Samaj. More than 10 policemen have been injured and five activists of the samaj were also injured in the incident. Seriously injured agitators Uttam Upreti and Ramite Lama have been taken to Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital for treatment.

Police said they were forced to open fire after the situation become uncontrollable.

In another incident, at least six people were injured when an unidentified person shot at people attending a wedding ceremony in Rautahat.
