After completing nationwide exhibition tour, the book entitled ‘A People War’ containing selected photographs of the decade long Maoist insurgency is being exhibited in Kathmandu.
Sixty photographs selected from the book ‘A People War’ are on display at the Nepal Art Council in Babar Mahal for a week.
A press release issued by nepa~laya, the organiser of the exhibition tour, more than 50,000 people have viewed the exhibition so far as it travelled to Jiri, Chautara, Lahan, Ilam, Narayanghat, Nepalgunj, Dhangadi, Tansen and Pokhara.
“The response was much bigger than we expected and we are happy to have added voice to Nepal’s peace constituency,” the statement quoted Kiran Krishna Shrestha of nepa~laya as saying.
The photographs are selected from 179 images taken by journalists and photographers from Nepal and abroad, which are in Kunda Dixit’s recently-released picture book, A People War.
“Everywhere we went people were moved, many to tears,” says Dixit, adding, “Their main message was that violence doesn’t solve anything and everyone said Nepalis should never have to see such brutality again.”
The exhibitions were mostly held inside buildings destroyed during the war, like the Bal Mandir in Ilam, the District Hospital in Chautara and were inaugurated by local people who are portrayed in the pictures on display.
