Protesting the decision of the parliament to pass the bill to amend the Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC), the Joint Struggle Committee of the NWSC employees’ association decided to halt distribution of water all over the country from today.
The amended bill will entitle the government to handover the government-owned water distribution mechanism to a foreign company.
As per the agreement with the donors, the passing of bill was necessary to receive loans for the construction of the tunnel of Melamchi Water Project.
The agitating employees also said that they will stop all administrative works.
They have also decided to hold sit-in at the NWSC head office and also hold chakkajam (traffic movement halt) today.
The employees also burnt a copy of the bill in the office premises in Kathmandu Valley and destroyed the board of Kathmandu Valley Water Board at Tahachal on Thursday.
The employees have announced their protest programmes till January 12. They also warned the Speaker not to verify the bill.
