The Non Residential Nepali Association (NRN-A) has expressed dissatisfaction over the decision of the Parliament to deprive NRNs from voting rights in the upcoming elections of the constituent assembly.

A press statement issued by the NRN-A said, as the election of the constituent assembly is different from regular elections and it is an important part to create history of the country, NRN-A believes that all people should be allowed to participate in it.

The statement further said, “NRN-A has taken the act to deprive NRNs to vote in the election of the constituent assembly as unfortunate decision.”

The statement further said that depriving NRNs from voting rights citing procedural difficulties, will leave the agenda of inclusive Nepal incomplete.

Stating that the decision of the parliament undermined the contribution of NRNs for the restoration of democracy, the statement also urged the government to amend the Act related to Voters’ List and allow them to participate in the election of the constituent assembly.

Meanwhile, a joint statement issued by Prabasi Nepali Association and All India Nepal Student Union also said that depriving people living outside the country from voting rights in the upcoming CA polls is a ploy of keeping monarchy in the country.

The statement further said that as many Nepalis living abroad are in favour of republican set up in the country, they have been deprived from voting rights to keep monarchy in the country.

Stating that the elections of the constituent assembly will not be complete if Nepalis living abroad were not allowed to vote, the statement urged the government to ensure participation of all Nepalis in the upcoming CA polls.

The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill related with voters’ list depriving NRNs from voting rights.
