The Election Commission (EC) has issued the Voters’ List Rules in the wake of the passage of the Voters’ List Act by the parliament.
The meeting of the election commissioners on Sunday issued the rules. “With the issuance of both the act and the rules, the process of collecting voters’ list will now proceed,” said secretary at the Commission Dolakh Bahadur Gurung.
The government has already said that it will begin collecting voters’ list from the middle of January. The government has been saying that the collection of voters’ list; and distribution of citizenship to the people of Terai will begin side by side.
Home Minister Krishna Sitaula has said that relocation of police posts and dispatch of VDC secretaries to the villages are necessary pre-requisites to carry out these tasks.
Meanwhile, talking to Radio Nepal, Maoist spokesperson Krishna Mahara said that his party has not agreed for total relocation of police posts all over the country. “We have only said that they can be relocated in certain areas not everywhere,” he said. The Maoists have said that full relocation of police posts should be carried out only after the interim constitution is promulgated and interim government is formed.
