The cabinet meeting held on Friday afternoon decided to form a high-level judicial commission to probe losses of lives and properties and atrocities during the Terai unrest.
Supreme Court justice Khilraj Ragmi has been appointed as the head of the commission. Other members of the commission are DIG for the eastern region Rabindra Pratap Shah, deputy attorney general Rajnarayan Pathak, deputy head of the National Investigation Department Sukhchandra Jha and district court judge of Siraha Sahadev Bastola.
Similarly, the cabinet also decided to ratify the decision of the eight-party regarding the cancellation of the report presented by constituency delineation commission. The eight-party meeting is scheduled for Saturday morning.
However, the cabinet took no concrete decision on the much awaited and disputed Melamchi project. The government spokesperson and Information Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara said, “Discussions were held but no conclusion was reached (on Melamchi issue).”
The cabinet also decided to take initiative to ensure the supply of petroleum products. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Rajendra Mahato said that he briefed the cabinet about fuel crisis. He hoped the eight party meeting will make necessary decision on the issue.
The cabinet also did not take any concrete decision on stalled parliament but entrusted the eight-party meeting for this purpose.
