Sher Bahadur Deuba, president of Nepali Congress (NC-Democratic), met with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and senior Congress leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, separately, on Wednesday.

In what is seen as efforts towards materialising Congress unity, Deuba met with PM and president of NC Girija Prasad Koirala at Baluwatar and then went to Bhattarai’s residence in Bhaisepati.

Following his meeting with the two leaders, Deuba told reporters that he paid courtesy call ahead of his scheduled visit to China, which begins on Thursday.

Deuba said that issues of Congress unity also figured in his meeting. “I have said I do not want any position like acting president for myself. I am in favour of respectful unity by accommodating all,” he said, adding, “I also said that I cannot wait for everr for unity.”

On Wednesday morning, Indian ambassador Shiv Shankar Mukherjee had met with Deuba.
