If all goes as planned, the local bodies which have remained without elected representatives for the last 4 years would be formed within the month of June, according to Local Development Minister Dev Gurung.
Inaugurating a workshop on ‘Local Autonomous rule’ organised by the Association of the District Development Committees (DDC) in the capital Friday, Minister Gurung informed that the local bodies would be restored till the end of this fiscal year and that preparations for it are underway.
“Discussions are going on among the eight parties to restore the local bodies,” he said and added that other parties can also be given a fair share in the local bodies on the basis of understanding among the eight parties.
In the last 4 years, it has generally become a trend to nominate people or appoint government bureaucrats in the local bodies. Presently the local bodies are run by government-appointed bureaucrats.
