Manpower entrepreneur killed, one injured

Unidentified assailants killed a local entrepreneur and seriously injured another in Dhobighat area of Lalitpur on Sunday evening in what appears to be extortion related crime suspected to be carried out by the notorious Spider Group.

According to Metropolitan Police Range Office, Rajiv Shrestha, 34, who owns a manpower company in Sanepa was shot while on his way home by assailants who had come in motorbikes. The deceased Shrestha hails from Dharan municipality of Sunsari District. Likewise, Prakash Rana, 33, the pillion rider on Shrestha’s bike was shot in the waist. Rana is currently receiving treatment at Patan Hospital and is out of danger.

The Kathmandu Post reported that Shrestha had received an email from a person claiming to be a member of Spider Group three months ago. He was asked to cough up Rs 500,000. A notorious underworld organisation, the Spider Group has been blamed for series of extortion, murder and other crimes in the capital city.
