A meeting between the talk teams of the government and the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NFIN) Saturday ended with an understanding to start formal negotiation after the government team completes first round of talks with other agitating groups.

Peace and Reconstruction minister Ram Chandra Poudel, who heads the government’s talk team, told reporters that the meeting was focused the talks procedure, but no agendas were discussed. He said the government-NFIN talks would start after his team reached out to other groups that have been invited for talks.

NFIN talks coordinator Dr Om Gurung said the NFIN was seeking restructuring of the state to make it inclusive. The upcoming constituent assembly election, he said, should include all sections of the Nepali society.

Gurung informed that the NFIN had withdrawn all its protest programmes as the talks process has started.

Two other members of the government team, state ministers Gyanendra Karki and Ram Chandra Yadav, were also present at the two-hour long meeting held at the Peace and Reconstruction Ministry in Singha Durbar.
