At a time when the political parties have been unable to fix fresh date for the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, an election commissioner has indicated that mid-November could be an appropriate time.

Speaking to reporters in Biratnagar, Thursday, election commissioner Dr. Nilkantha Upreti said that the parties should quickly fix the fresh date even if the polls are to be held in mid-November – following the monsoon and festival seasons.

Dr. Upreti said announcement of elections six months in advance could give EC enough time to prepare.

He also complained that the EC should not be treated like a plaything. “EC does not want to hold elections like the one held by royal government. We don’t want to be anybody’s toy,” he said.

Dr. Upreti also urged parties to concentrate on CA elections rather than dividing their focus on other issues.
