The Maoist-affiliated Tharu Liberation Front (TLF) has imposed bandh in five districts of mid and far western region to protest the recent scuffle between the Armed Police Force (APF) and Young Communist League (YCL).
Bandh has been imposed in Bardiya, Dang, Banke, Kailali and Kanchanpur districts for Friday and Saturday. The TLF activists have organised protest demonstrations in the districts.
Following the scuffle at Sanoshree of Bardiya district on Wednesday, the administration has continued curfew in the region. Although it was relaxed for five hours this morning, the indefinite curfew has been re-clamped from 10 am, Friday.
Two days ago, over two dozen persons were injured after the Maoist-affiliated YCL cadres clashed with APF in Sanoshree. The YCL cadres led group of freed Kamaiyas and landless squatters and attacked the police post protesting its establishment at the Cotton Development Committee’s building – where the YCL used to stay earlier.
While the seven parties have said that the police post is necessary for maintaining security in the border region, the Maoists have said that the post is not required there. Following the violence, indefinite curfew had been imposed in Ward No 3, 4 and 5 of Sanoshree VDC from 2:00 pm on May 2.
