Minister for Local Development Dev Gurung has said that the local bodies will be formed within mid-July.

Inaugurating the 16th District Council meeting of Chitwan DDC in Bharatpur, on Tuesday, Minister and senior Maoist leader Gurung said all the eight parties are responsible for forming the local bodies – including VDCs, DDCs and municipalities which are now being run by bureaucrats.

“We are working to fill the vacant local bodies within this month of Asar (mid-July). The government is committed to form these bodies and equip them with resources,” said Gurung.

“At present, the government is run by eight party understanding. Even the constitution is formed by eight party understanding. Therefore, the local bodies, too, will be run by eight party understanding,” he said.

The Minister also said he will go for devolution of authority rather than current unitary system in place in local bodies.
