Talking to reporters at a press meet organised in Sunsari Tuesday, Minister Nepal said, ”If the Maoists do not control the YCL, it will eventually prove a huge burden for them and it may even be a reason for their downfall.”
His comment’s came a day after the YCL handed Sitaram Prasai, a banker accused of multi-million rupees fruad, over to the police after taking him under control for over 24 hours. Reacting to Prasai’s ‘abduction’, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said the YCL had turned into a “young criminal league”.
Meanwhile, protesting Koirala’s remarks YCL today announced nationwide protest programmes.
YCL general secretary D.B Prajapati said the YCL would stage demonstrations in the capital and other districts from 3 pm onwards today.
He also informed that they would burn effigies of the Prime Minister as part of the protest and hold corner meetings. “The Prime Minister should publicly apologise for his remarks on YCL,” he said.
