Over 30 rescued from capsized boat; Nearly 20 still missing (News update)

Latest reports from eastern Nepal say some thirty people have been rescued alive when a boat carrying over fifty people capsized in Koshi river on Friday afternoon. Nearly 20 people are still missing.

According to reports, the boat was on its way to Sri Lanka tappu of Sunsari district from Raja Bas in the same district when it capsized in the swollen Koshi river at around 3 p.m. on Friday.

The boat was carrying people who were returning after marriage. Both bride and bridegroom have been rescued alive, according to local people.

Police said a group of security personnel have already reached the site of accident and carrying out search and rescue work in cooperation with local villagers. Five boats have been mobilized to conduct rescue operation.
