The government and Maoists have expressed commitment to assist the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee.

They expressed their commitment during the meeting of the Maoist and the government talks teams with the representatives of the drafting committee.

The members of the dialogue team of the government and the Maoists hinted that the government and the Maoists may induct some other members in the panel.

In the meeting held at the Peace Secretariat on Thursday, members of the committee urged the government and the Maoists to endorse their appointments through a Cabinet meeting and publish the same in the Nepal Gazette in order to give legitimacy to the committee.

The coordinators of the government and Maoist talks teams assured them to extend full support in their work, but the members of the committee stuck to their stance not to start work before the cabinet endorsed their appointment and government issue formal letters to them.

The government and the Maoists, during the high level talks on Friday, had formed the interim constitution drafting committee with the mandate of submitting the draft constitution within 15-days. Confusion then emerged as the government did not provide formal letters to them to start their work.

Talking to Nepalnews, one of the members of the drafting committee, Sindhu Nath Pyakurel informed that they discussed about the formation of interim constitution.

He further said that the next meeting will decide on issuing formal letters to the members of the committee. He however said that the committee will not start its work without letter from the government.

The committee was controversial from the start, as there was no representation of women.

Meanwhile, the seven party alliance is meeting shortly at UML headquarters in Balkhu to discuss the latest political development of the country following the eight point agreement with the Maoists.
