Violating the ceasefire code of conduct, the Maoists have abducted a former major in the western district of Palpa.

A group of Maoists abducted Dhatananda Bhattrai from his residence in the district headquarters, Tansen, Thursday morning, saying that they had to interrogate him on some matters.

A few months earlier, the rebels had announced to expel Bhattrai from the district for five years. He was elected as the mayor of Tansen Municipality unopposed in February last year.

Bhattrai’s whereabouts remain unknown while the Maoists are yet to say anything about his abduction.
