DPM Oli holds meetings with ministers of various countries

Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) KP Sharma Oli, who also holds the foreign portfolio held meetings with Minister of Disaster and Human Rights of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Samarasinge, Minister of State of External Affairs of India, HE Ananda Sharma, and Minister of State for Trade, Investment and Foreign Affairs of United Kingdom, Ian McCartney, on the sidelines of the First meeting of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva, on Tuesday.

A press release issued by the Permanent Mission of Nepal in Geneva said, the DPM conveyed thanks and appreciation of the people and Government of Nepal for their consistent support to the peaceful people’s movement for democracy and human rights in Nepal and informed them of the initiatives taken by the Government to consolidate the achievements of the movement, strengthen democratic process and intensification of the peace process to resolve the problem confronting Nepal.

They discussed the issues of preparations for the Constituent Assembly election, ceasefire, peace process and its monitoring and assured all necessary help for the successful transition towards establishing peace and stability in Nepal.

During the meetings, they also discussed about strengthening the newly created Human Rights Council and the need for enhanced level of bilateral assistance to meet the enormous challenges of reconstruction and rehabilitation Nepal is facing now, the statement adds.

The Ministers of Sri Lanka, India and UK welcomed the recent political change in Nepal and congratulated Oli for the encouraging steps taken by the democratic Government of Nepal to end the conflict.
