Two Indian dacoits were killed in southern district of Dhanusha on Sunday during the retaliation of local people.
According to police, a group of Indian dacoits was following an Indian businessman aboard the Janakpur-Jayanagar railway and tried to rob him at a place between Khajuri and Mainapur railway station. The robbers, however, tried to flee when railway staff and the passengers of the train retaliated.
One of the robbers was injured and later caught when the assailants caused explosion while fleeing. Two robbers were killed in retaliation by the local people, according to police.
Superintendent of Police in Dhanusha, Bigyan Raj Sharma, told reporters that the injured suspected robber was first treated at a local hospital and later taken into custody.
There have been instances of robbery at the only railway in the country from time to time. But reports say this is the first time that suspected robbers were caught or killed by local people.
Known for its slow motion, it takes up to three-and-half hours to cover the 29 km long railway, which was constructed some 70 years ago.
