The Supreme Court ordered the police to free detained sub inspector Hom Bahadur Bagale stating that he was detained illegally.

Acting upon a habeas corpus petition, a division bench of Justices Sharada Prasad Pundit and Arjun Prasad Singh issued the order to the Police Headquarters, Inspector General of Police Shyam Bhakta Thapa and Kathmandu District Police Office to release Bagale.

The police authorities had detained Bagale after dismissing him a few days ago.

Talking to journalists after the SC order, Bagale said that he got justice.

Meanwhile, the Asian Human Rights Commission has expressed deep concern over Bagale being subjected to constant harassment and torture.

Bagale has alleged that his senior officers were trying to terminate his services instead of accepting his resignation.

Bagale had filed cases at Patan Appellate Court and the Supreme Court alleging detention and torture by the police officers after he refused to comply with a senior officer’s orders to fetch gold sent by his relatives in Brunei in 2002.
