Galaxy TV (GTV) Ltd– a London-based private company—had been test transmitting programmes of Nepal Television since 25 August this year. It is now being transmitted 24-hours a day regularly by using Hot bird satellite over K U Band (Direct-to-Home DTH format), the company said.
“The airing of Nepal Television in European countries including UK and Gulf countries will not only provide true information on Nepal to Nepalis residing there, it will also help in promote Nepali culture and tourism,” said Sahaj Man Shrestha, Nepal Representative of the GTV. He said GTV was also working on to expand NTV coverage to the US and Australia in near future as per the agreement with the NTV.
This is the first time that NTV transmissions are being aired live to the audiences in Europe and Gulf countries.
Talking to Nepalnews, general manager of the NTV, Madan Kumar Sharma, said it was a great opportunity that national television of Nepal was now available for audiences in Europe and Gulf countries in real time. “We hope it will help re-connect Non-Resident Nepalis wherever they are with their homeland.”
Established in 1985, NTV is the first television station of Nepal.
