Chairman of the high-level probe commission, Krishna Jung Rayamajhi, has said that the commission will soon interrogate King Gyanendra over the atrocities committed by the erstwhile royal regime during the people’s movement-II.

Talking to reporters in Charikot, the district headquarters of Dolakha, on Saturday, Rayamajhi said that since the King chaired the earlier cabinet he should be answerable to questions regarding the use of force during the people’s movement in April this year.

He said the King’s questioning could be done in written Q&A format or he could even be interrogated face-to-face, reports said. Rayamajhi, however, did not explain when exactly the interrogation would take place.

Rayamajhi arrived in Dolakha as part of investigating into the former government’s excesses during the people’s movement in which 21 people lost their lives and more than 4000 people were wounded. He met with the injured activists of the pro-democracy movement and heard their complaints.

The probe commission had recently decided to carry out its second-phase investigation in districts. It has already interrogated more than 200 individuals including the key functionaries of then royal government, security chiefs, administrators as well as King Gyanendra’s principal secretary, Pashupati Bhakta Maharjan, in connection with their alleged role in suppressing the people’s movement.
