Cabinet asks govt. talks team to prepare for summit level talks

The government has asked the government talks team to fix the dates and agendas for the summit level talks between the top leaders of the seven party alliance and the Maoists.

Wednesday’s cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar made the decision to this effect.

According to reports, the government talks team has been asked to prepare environment for summit talks to sort out differences between them and the Maoists.

Stating that holding the elections of the constituent assembly is the main agenda of the country, the meeting also decided to finalize the draft constitution submitted by the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee to hold the elections of the constituent assembly.

The meeting also decided to beef up security situation of the valley to avoid any untoward incidents stating that the security situation was weak.

The meeting was also held today as Tuesday’s meeting mostly concentrated on the political agenda.

Talking to journalists after the meeting, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and one of the members of the government’s talks team, Pradip Gyawali, said that the summit level talks will be held after the leaders of Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and NC (Democratic) return from Korea after taking part in the fourth General Assembly of the Asian Political Parties.

Minister Gyawali said that the government’s talks team will prepare environment for holding talks with the Maoists till the teams return from Korea.

The cabinet meeting also endorsed the citizenship bill.
