Protesting the killing of a taxi driver by an unidentified passenger last night, taxi drivers blocked the traffic in the streets of Kathmandu for hours Tuesday afternoon.
They parked their taxies in major traffic intersections like Ratna Park, Jamal, Durbar Marg, Maitighar and Baneshwor, completely blocking the vehicular movement in these areas. Other busy streets also saw traffic jam for hours due to the strike organised to protest the killing of Chudamani Thapamagar at Koteshwor.
The protesting taxi drivers demanded that the authorities track down the culprit and guarantee the security of night taxi drivers.
Thapa Magar, who used to driver the taxi with a number plate Ba 1 Ja 1876, was stabbed to death by an unidentified passenger, who fled the scene immediately. He had multiple stabs on his back and neck.
While the cause behind the death is yet to be confirmed. Police said they have recovered some TD Zesic injections from the taxi which indicated that the passenger was high on drugs.
