The Janamorcha Nepal (People’s Front Nepal), which had been witnessing internal dispute for some time, has formally split up.

After the first national conference of the party in Butwal, the dissident faction announced the new party under the same name with Chitra Bahadur KC as its chairman. The breakaway faction that has appointed Dila Ram Acharya as the party general secretary has claimed itself as the authentic Janamorcha Nepal.

KC was working as the spokesperson of the party before the split.

The breakaway faction has constituted a 39-membre central committee. The KC faction that was earlier led by Mohan Bikram Singh had been opposing the party leadership’s decision to join the current government.

The breakaway faction and the party establishment have three parliamentarians each on their side. Earlier, the two factions had also differences regarding their position over the Maoist insurgency.

Janamorcha Nepal was formed after a merger between the CPN (Unity Centre) and CPN (Masal) five years ago, forming a 46-member central committee, 23 members from each side.

The party establishment led by Sherchan is yet to make public its view over the vertical split in the party.
