The High Level Probe Commission (HLPC) formed to investigate the atrocities committed to suppress pro-democracy movement of the country is grilling Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Pyar Jung Thapa.
The commission has summoned Thapa for his alleged role in suppressing the Jana Andolan (People’s movement) II as chief of the “unified command”.
Thapa, who deferred the earlier summon of the commission on Sunday, reached the commission office at 11:25 a.m. to record his statement.
Thapa deferred the summon of Sunday citing an official trip to Pokhara.
Talking to reporters at the premises of commission’s office before filing his statement CoAS Thapa said, “I am attending the commission to record my statement.”

Thapa arrived at the commission amid tight security. Security personnel misbehaved with journalists present to cover the event, reports said.
This is the first time the commission is grilling a top officer of the Nepal Army.
The government suspended chiefs of three security agencies as per the recommendation of the commission, but spared Thapa.
The commission has already summoned suspended chiefs of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department and incumbent police officers.
The high level commission has interrogated vice chairmen duo of the erstwhile royal government, ministers, administrators, former Speaker Taranath Ranabhat, former Chief Justice Hari Prasad Sharma and other royal advisors about their role in suppressing the pro-democracy movement of the country.
