Chairman of CPN-Maoist Prachanda met with Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, to assist Nepal peace process, Ian Martin and discussed the issue of Maoist arms management and Nepal peace process.
According to reports, the one hour long meeting basically dwelt on the issue of Maoist arms management and expediting peace process of the country.
Prachanda and Martin discussed about the modalities of Maoist arms management.
Maoist leaders urged the UN team to speed up its act in Nepal.
The four round of summit level meeting between the ruling seven party alliance and Maoists postponed inconclusively after both the sides failed to find consensus in the issues of Maoist arms management and the fate of monarchy.
Senior Maoist leader, Dr. Babu Ram Bhattrai, who also accompanied Prachanda during the meeting, described the meeting as positive.
Dr. Bhattrai quoted Martin as saying that the UN is ready to extend all necessary assistance for the success of peace talks.
However, they did not discuss about the reports of Maoist excessive including extortion and abduction.
The meeting held at the undisclosed location of the Capital was also attended by the team members of the UN team led by Martin.
The UN secretary general appointed Martin as his Personal Representative to assist Nepal peace process, as per the letter sent by Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Maoist chairman Prachanda seeking the world body’s help to assist Nepal peace process.
The Maoist supremo has called on Indian Ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukharjee and discussed about the Nepal peace process on Tuesday.
