Continuing his deliberations with senior Nepali political leaders, Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee met with Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Amik Sherchan on Thursday and discussed the ongoing peace process in Nepal.
Emerging out of the meeting held at Sherchan’s office in Singha Durbar, ambassador Mukherjee said India was happy with the way peace process is moving ahead in Nepal. He also expressed satisfaction over the pace of talks and added that the process of arms management should be done in a “complete and credible” manner.
Saying that the modality of management of arms as such was not an important issue, Mukherjee said the Indian government believed that Nepali people should not be kept under the shadow of arms for a long time.
Some health-related issues and Indian assistance in the health sector were also discussed during the meeting, according to him.
Mukherjee’s meeting with Sherchan came two days after a crucial meeting with Maoist chairman Prachanda at the Indian Embassy.
Meanwhile, DPM Sherchan has said that summit talks between the ruling seven-party alliance and the Maoists would take place within 2-3 days.
“I am not in a position to announce the date, but I am sure the summit meeting will take place very soon – may be within 2-3 days,” Sherchan told reporters after his meeting with the Indian ambassador.
