The Nepali Army (NA) Saturday said it would take action against two wayward soldiers, who clashed with local residents in Chisapani, Bardiya district, in a state of drunkenness on Friday night.

A statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR) of the NA said that soldiers Gyan Bahadur Shrestha and Nabaraj Gharti Magar of Chisapani security base, who left their barrack without permission and were caught in a scuffle with locals, have been taken into military custody and investigation into the incident has been initiated.

The heavily drunk soldiers were taken under control by the locals, who handed them over to the Ilaka Police Office in Kohalpur, Banke.

The DPR statement further said that situation in the area has become normal after the head of the army battalion in Chisapani and police officials held negotiation with the villagers.

Following the incident, irate villagers had staged protest against the unethical activities of the army soldiers.

The NA has already taken action against several army officials, especially after the restoration of democracy in the country six months ago, for involving in confrontations with civilians.
