The National Sports Council (NSC) has dissolved 15 national associations, who held their elections during the royal regime (after February 1, 2005).
At a press conference organized by NSC on Friday, it was informed that the 54th regular board meeting of the council chaired by Minister for Education and Sports and president of NSC, Mangal Siddhi Manandhar, has revoked the elections of 15 associations — Nepal Amateur Athletics Association, Nepal Badminton Association, Nepal Table Tennis Association, All Nepal Football Association, Nepal Shooting Association, Nepal Boxing Association, Nepal Judo Association, Nepal Archery Association, Nepal Soft Tennis Association, Nepal Squash and Rackets Association, Nepal Rafting and Canoeing Association, Nepal Basketball Association, Nepal Chess Association, and Public Enterprises Sports Development Association of Nepal.
The meeting also decided to restore the previous committees as ad-hoc ones to accomplish new election. “We dissolved those associations that held election during the royal regime, which was not democratic, so we decided to dissolve all the elections held that time,” said Jeevan Ram Shrestha, member secretary of NSC.
Shrestha also informed that the same officials would not be able to hold same portfolio in two different associations. “The officials must resign from the post within 15 days”, Shrestha informed. The meeting also passed the resolution to hold 5th National Games in Kathmandu next year.
