Mahendra Police Club (MPC) rode on a jubilant game of skipper Hari Khadka to clinch a hard fought 3-2 victory over RCT while Armed Police Force (APF) thrashed NRT 4-0 to leapfrog MMC in the league standing in the on-going Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel “A” Division League Football Tournament at Dasrath stadium today.
The third consecutive win put MPC in second position with cent percent result but below TAC on inferior goal difference. In the day’s first match, MPC took a lead through Bhola Silwal early in the 6th minute but the joy was short lived as RCT skipper Madhu Rai leveled the score one minute later firing a beautiful 25 yarded free-kick.
Skipper Hari Khadka found net in the 16th minute when he easily tapped in a pin-point pass from Ramesh Budathoki to take the tally 2-1. Skipper Madhu Karki made the worst clearance scoring an own goal in the 21st minute to give a two goal lead for Birat Shrestha’s charges. But RCT cut the deficit through a spot kick in the 45+2 minute when Parbat Pandey handled the ball inside the penalty area. RCT marksman Rishi Rai made no mistake before going for lemon break.
After the half time break, the score line remained rigid and both teams could make any breathtaking attempts and MPC won the match 3-2.
In the other game, APF thrashed NRT 4-0 to jump to the fourth position in the league standings. After playing to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Sankata, APF played an exhilarating game to put pressure on NRT from the start. Santosh Shahukhala again had an excellent game scoring twice early (16th & 19th minute) while Jibesh Pandey and Sunil Subedi also wrote their name in the goal sheet to ensure the deserved victory.
NRT were two wins out of two games but they failed this time in the third game and are yet to show that they can beat the big boys to make a stand atop the league standings.
