The Election Commission has said it will soon start updating voters’ list in view of Constituent Assembly elections to be held in mid-June, 2007. “The EC is preparing to start collecting voters’ list soon after interim constitution is promulgated,” Laxman Bhattarai, spokesperson of EC, told Nepal Samacharpatra.
The EC is also preparing to issue a separate Voters’ List Act since it lacks legal instruments to hold the CA elections. The EC has formed a draft committee headed by an Election Commissioner Usha Nepal to look into required changes in laws and acts and prepare necessary draft of the act.
The EC has also formed seven different committees to look after various aspects of CA elections such as formulating code of conduct, ensuring security, preparing ballot paper, preparing election guidelines, monitoring elections, election campaigning and management as well as voters’ education.
