Oli asks taskforce to devise people-oriented foreign policy

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister KP Sharma Oli has asked the taskforce constituted for reviewing the objectives of the foreign policy of the country to form pro-people and economic diplomacy.

While giving guidelines to the taskforce during a meeting at the ministry on Friday, Oli urged the team to study how Nepal’s foreign policy could be made people-oriented and how the economic diplomacy could be promoted by enhancing Nepal’s image in the international arena, official news agency, RSS, said.

The DPM asked the taskforce to come up with a report with suggestions within 15 days.

The taskforce comprises Prof. Lok Raj Baral, Prof Harsha Narayan Dhaubhadel, Prof Kedar Bhakta Mathema, Dr. Arajoo Rana Deuba, Chandi Raj Dhakal, Pramesh Hamal, Bal Bahadur Kunwar, Binda Pandey and Yadav Kanta Silwal.

At the meeting, officiating foreign secretary Bhagirath Basnet expressed confidence that the taskforce would identify the new dimensions and the priorities of Nepal’s foreign policy.

The meeting decided to designate former foreign secretary and Nepal’s former permanent representative to the United Nations, Murari Raj Sharma, as the convenor of the taskforce.
