Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Foreign Minister KP Sharma Oli has ruled out the possibility of forming an interim government until the Maoist arms were managed.
Speaking at a programme in Pokhara on Saturday, Oli said, “The interim government will not be formed immediately after the UN takes charge of the arms management process.”
He alleged that formatting of interim government was being delayed as the Maoist leaders were busy making political speeches.
On the arms management, he said that once the United Nations began the arms management, the weapons of the Nepal Army would be kept in the barracks, while the Maoists’ arms would be collected at one place and kept under UN supervision.
“After political situation stabilises, the UN will not inspect the Maoists’ arms. The government itself will solve the problem,” he added.
Saying that the talks would not fail this time, Oli claimed that the government had been more flexible than the Maoists.
“The government removed the red corner notice against the Maoist leaders and released the Maoist detainees. Maoists are now free to stage political programmes. But the rebels have not stopped abduction or extortion,” Oli added.
Regarding the accommodation of the Maoist forces and their expenses, Oli said that the government would work out a necessary arrangement after receiving details about them from the UN.
