Kathmandu, August 28: The nine hundred year-old stone sculpture of Umamaheshwar, which had been stolen from the Umamaheshwar temple in Dhulikhel of Kavre district eight years ago, is to be handed over to Nepalese authorities and re-installed Monday.
The sculpture has been brought from Museum of Indian Art in Berlin Germany and being handed over to Nepalese authorities today. The German Museum acquired the image for about 50,000 US dollars from an art dealer in 1985.
The art peace was later identified as the historic art work of Nepal as museum officials read Nepal’s famous writer Lain Sing Bangdel’s book ” Stolen Images of Nepal”.
Berlin Museum authorities then decided to return the sculpture and contacted the Nepalese authorities for the same.
