Kathmandu, 6 January 2001: The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the ruling Nepali Congress party will hold it’s first meet after the no trust motion failure, at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar on Friday, January 12, 8am, an announcement said Saturday. The no trust-motion against Premier Girija Prasad Koirala was defeated on Thursday under controversial circumstances. The Deuba camp said the no trust motion was not formally tabled for discussion at the parliamentary party meeting while Koirala supporters deny the charge
The forty-one rebels under Sher Bahadur Deuba, said they will continue a campaign to dislodge Koirala as prime minister and party president without splitting the party.
The CWC meet will discuss party unity and amendments of the party constitution besides also reviewing the preparatory works for the forthcoming national convention of the party and discussing the agenda and issues to be presented in the convention.
However, a source close to Prime Minister Koirala said that the meeting has been called to narrow differences among some central leaders of the Nepali Congress that occurred following the registration of no trust motion. The source also said that Koirala is likely to put forward a package for party unity and united approach in the forthcoming national convention. The central committee is meeting ahead of the party’s national convention this month to elect its president.
