Rautahat, Feb. 25: A humiliating incident surfaced at a wedding here in which the relatives of the groom had to return with empty hands following differences with the bridegroom’s family.
Madan Biswakarma of Betauna village in Shantapur VDC-4 and Parvati Biswakarma of New Road in Sarlahi were to wed amid a function at Nunathar Temple a Parai Monday. Family members from both sides had gathered for the wedding ceremony.
But both sides were sidelined following a hot dispute about the groom already being married.
The groom’s side had failed to properly inform the bridegroom’s family of the previous marriage from which the groom had himself walked away as the girl had refused to live with him.
“I had to marry again because of that failed marriage. The girl and her parents had agreed to this wedding, but they have been instigated by local villagers”, the groom-to-be rued.
According to a relative of the groom, all the formalities had been completed.
But when it became impossible to go through with the wedding as the family of the bride stuck to their stand of not allowing her to marry someone who had already been married before, all paraphernalia including the dowry were returned.
