Khotang, Mar. 4: Members of the district council boycotted its meeting yesterday in protest at not being given a satisfactory answer by officiating District Education Officer Uddhav Bista to queries made by the members when a working paper was being presented on March 2.

They compelled  Bista to stand at the rostrum for nearly five hours throwing a string of questions at him regarding politicising the school management committees for primary schools of the district and nominating of persons who have already died or have gone abroad for employment as chairmen of such committees.

Although an all party committee including representatives from the district council, the chief district officer, the deputy police superintendent and local development officer has been formed to settle the dispute, Bista was adamant that things have been carried out in accordance with the education act and regulations could not be altered.

“What I have done is in consonance with the existing laws and regulations. Some issues were corrected on time after they came into notice. If somebody committed mistakes, legal remedy should be resorted to”, he retorts.
