Kathmandu, Mar. 4: Former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that non-governmental organisa-tions can play a significant role in the development of civil society and good governance.
Mr Deuba, who was inaugurating a programme entitled ‘Solidarity for good governance’ organsied here today by the South Asian Partnership organisation sap nepal, said that since transparency and responsibility are essential for good governance these are the things that ngos should be alert about.
Ngos also have a significant role to play in alleviating the problems of poverty and unemployment that are widespread in the country, he said and urged them to advance hand in hand in this direction.
The programme was organised with the objective of fostering solidarity among sap Nepal-affiliated organisations operating in various sectors, enhancing the productivity and capability of such organisations and public relations.
During the programme which runs till March 8, interactions will be held on poverty and good governance, ngos and good governance and the role of ngos in administration, along with other activities.
During the programme chaired by sap nepal executive committee chairman Gokul Pokharel, five persons making an outstanding contribution under sap nepal were presented golden pins and five other medals and letters of appreciation.
