Chitwan, Mar. 17: Chief justice of the Supreme Court Keshav Prasad Upadhyaya says that as far as dispensation of justice to the people is concerned the lawyers should work with a spirit of service without being  lured to any personal benefit.

Speaking at a special programme organised by the Chitwan Bar Association here yesterday,  Chief Justice Upadhyaya said  all the lawyers should be unanimous in providing justice to the illiterate.

He said if there was any deficiency on the part of the judges in dispensation of justice there should be consultations on it rather than precipitate condemning of it.

At the function presided over by the association president Bhupendra Jung Poudel, various other speakers including advocates Madhav Khaniya, Prakash Regmi, Jagannath Bhandari, Dharma Raj Acharya, and Shesh Shankar Upreti  shed light on the shortcomings  in the laws and opined that the right of habious corpus should be given to the district.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice of the Supreme court Upadhyaya inaugurated here Thursday the national conference of the women of the paralegal committee for establishment of the community security system against the girls trafficking and their sexual exploitation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Upadhyaya said, “As far as dispensation of justice to people is concerned there should be no gender discrimination as the constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal- 1990 guaranteed  equal  rights and protection to all citizens.”

Chief Justice Upadhyaya said  various forms of  violence against women still existed in the country despite the provision for their   rights guaranteed by the constitution and the law.

He said, “Though there are acts and the ‘Muluki Ain’ to control the girl trafficking, there is a need to make the laws more relevant  and timely.”

As the chief cause of the women’s exploitation is illiteracy,  we should cooperate in  raising the awareness of  the women.

At the  two day conference organised by law research and the resource development centre,  altogether 300 representatives from 14 districts and 230 VDCs including  paralegal  women, VDC chairmen and  teachers.

From the chair, president of the centre Madhav Prasad Acharya said women’s development is only possible when awareness is  raised  among them.

On the occasion, various speakers including DDC chairman Bishnu Ghimire, deputy mayor of Bharatpur municipality Devi Prasad Gyawali, Badri Timilsina of rpp, Shailendra Piya of the cpn – ml, Padma Bahadur Gurung, Dr. Rohit Nepali, Radha Krishna Shrestha, Yubaraj Sangraula, Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel, president of the Bar Association Bhupendra Jung Poudel, Prakash K.C. and Callo Lean Walker and Li Te Chu from the donor agencies also laid emphasis on  women’s awareness.
