Lalitpur, June 27: The White Lotus Book Shop, Kopundol organised a poetry symposium to hold interaction among the new and old generation poets with the objective of raising the standard of Nepali literature to international levels.
On the occasion poets Hari Adhikari and Shiva Adhikari stressed on the clarity in the language of poem.
Organiser of the symposium Yuyutsu R D Sharma said that the programme had been organised with the objective of facilitating interaction among poets and writers and familiarizing them on the intenational literature.
Poets Hari Adhikari and Shiva Sdhikari and Mr Sharma, Govinda Nepal, Pramod Snehi, Gagan Deep Sarba, Shyam Rimal, Rameshwar Matridas, Tanka Upreti, Biplav Dhakal, Sashi Lumumbu, Rasa and Tirtha Bhattaraee read out English and Nepali language poems at the programme.
Meanwhlile, the three day inter-high school mural painting competition organised by the Saraswati Teachers’ Training, Research and Resource Centre (STRC) and the WWF concluded outside Bir Hospital the other day.
Altogether 12 public and private high schools had taken part in the contest organised with a view to involving youths in raising awareness about conservation activities.
The theme of the contest was “empowerment of youth through eco club activities.”
The students were given 20 feet by 6 feet space per school. Teams of six students each team worked hard from the June 23 to 25, to create large murals with messages for conservation and the need to involve youth in constructive social activities.
The murals were judged this morning and schools who came out first, second and third were Triyog Girls School, AVM High School and Adarsha Yog Hari School respectively.
The consolation prizes for fourth, fifth and sixth positions went to Nightingale School, Shuvatara School and Basanta Ritu and Nepal Adarsha School (tied position).
The group of participating schools are to form a group called the “Change Maker” coordinated by Shuvatara School in order to look after the walls, its maintenance and take up further programmes to clean the city.
The prizes of Rs 6000 for first school team, Rs 4000 for second school team, Rs 3000 third school team and Rs 500 each for consoltation prizes will be also given out during the STRC 5th international education conference on secondary education to be held from July 5-8 at the Nepal Administrative Staff College.
