Mahendranagar, June 27:Royal Nepalese Ambassador to India Dr. Bhekh Bahadur Thapa has said that Nepal and India both have to maintain mutual understanding and resolve the issues to make the relations between the two countries more cordial.
Ambassador Dr. Thapa who was here in the context of his two-day visit to study border areas, speaking at a programme hosted by Kanchanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that he had frequently held talks with the Indian authorities on the inhumane behaviour meted out by Indian citizens and police at the border area of the two countries.
Dr. Thapa also said that he had informed the Indian authorities of the delay in the implementation of the Mahakali Treaty.
Former chamber president Lok Bikram Thapa and various other speakers apprised ambassador Dr. Thapa of the inhumane treatment meted out to the Nepalese by the Indian police at the border areas.
Likewise, ambassador Dr. Thapa inspected the Laxmanpur barrage and the embankment constructed on the Rapti River by the Indian government in its territory bordering Banke district the order day.
Ambassador Thapa came here from New Delhi on Monday via Mahakali. After the inspection Dr. Thapa left for Delhi the same day.
Chief district officer Shyam Prasad Mainali and superintendent of police Arun Singh accompanied Dr. Thapa during the inspection.
