Lalitpur, June 27: RPP candidate Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani secured 11,484 votes while Rajendra Prakash Lohani of the CPN-UML received 11,483 votes at the end of the recounting of votes of the general elections-2056 held in constituency No. 1 of Nuwakot district.
The verdict to this effect was given today by the special election tribunal of judge Pramod Bijayi.
Earlier CPN-UML candidate Rajendra Prakash Lohani had been elected MP from Nuwakot constituency-1 in the general elections-2056. He had polled 15 more votes than Dr. Lohani.
After the announcement of the election results, Dr Lohani had filed a petition with the special election tribunal, Lalitpur seeking recounting of votes in constituency No. 1 of Nuwakot district on the grounds that irregularities had taken place during the counting of votes.
Upon being elected to the post of member of the House of Representatives after re-counting of votes of Nuwakot district constituency No. 1, RPP’s candidate Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani said that he got justice from the verdict of the court.
Talking to RSS, Dr Lohani expressed confidence that the verdict will discourage the trend of rigging in vote counting and help ensure free and fair election.
Also reacting to the court’s verdict, CPN-UML MP Rajendra Prakash Lohani noted that he is not defeated by the people.
Advocate Harikrishna Karki who pleaded on behalf of the CPN-UML’s Lohani remarked that initiatives will be taken to appeal to the Supreme Court against the verdict.
Senior advocate Ganesh Raj Sharma said it is not proper to make comments on the verdict of a court of law.
President of the Nepal Bar Association Harihar Dahal observed that even only one vote may decide victory or defeat, but it is too early to comment since “I have yet to go through the court’s decisions.”
