Interaction programme organised

Kathmandu, June 22: Minister of State for Women, Children and Social Welfare Kamala Pant today inaugurated an interaction programme on formulation of policy for social security organised by the ministry here today.

On the occasion, Mrs Pant said that His Majesty’s Government was striving to pave the way for the implementation of a policy envisaged in Ninth Plan concerning the welfare of women, children, elderly persons and other helpless people of the society.

MP Asta Laxmi Shakya expressed the view that the government should comply with its commitment made on international conventions in co-ordination with various ministries while formulating a social security policy.

Secretary at the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare Urmila Shrestha, from the chair, said that the ministry was in touch with different ministries to devise social security policy as a national policy.

Member secretary of the Social Welfare Council Dr. Tika Prasad Pokharel observed that the proposed social security policy should devote attention towards the rights and interest of the backward classes which lag behind economically and socially.

Ex-secretary at the ministry Mukti Prasad Kafle and joint secretary Ritu Raj Bhandari presented working papers on different concepts of the social security policy and on the responsibilities to be shouldered by the ministry.
