MPs draw attention of House on current issues

Kathmandu, June 25: MPs of different political parties sought time at the House of Representatives today to draw the attention of the House towards the law and order situation in the country and other pertinent issues.

Dilli Raj Khanal of CPN-UML said that a tradition of informing MPs about tax and revenue proposals and also deliberations on finance bill should be initiated.

Badri Prasad Mandal of Nepal Sadbhawana Party said that people in Morang are facing difficulties due to interruption of transport following the collapse of diversion bridges on the Rangeli Road and demanded restoration of the traffic.

Lila Mani Pokharel of United People’s Forum said that some 27 demonstrators from the down-trodden communities were arrested by police during picketing at Singha Durbar on June 23 to press for their rights in the face of social discrimination, and that they have been resorting to a fast at Bhadrakali since Sunday.

Narayan Prakash Saud of Nepali Congress asked why the Parliament Secretariat Autonomy Bill forwarded by a parliamentary committee to the cabinet has been slow in coming to the House.

Referring to the deteriorating law and order situation in the country, Prakash Jwala of CPN-UML accused the government of abducting CPN-UML party workers from Salyan Devsthal and Santa Kumar of Surkhet. He also drew the attention of the government to the felling of trees in Dang District by persons including Sher Bahadur Khadka.

Savitri Bogati of Nepali Congress said that people have died in Lamjung, Tanahu and Kaski due to recent flooding and the dam along the Rapti River is on the verge of collapse. He called on the government to arrest girl trafficking and domestic violence.

Hem Narayan Yadav of CPN-UML expressed anguish over the police harassing CPN-UML party workers instead of initiating a search for the murderer of ex-president of Siraha DDC Chandra Narayan Yadav.

Arjun Prasad Joshi of Nepali Congress demanded scrutiny into the murder of the ex-president of Siraha DDC and action against whosoever is found to have been involved in the crime.

Bhadra Bahadur Thapa of CPN-UML drew the attention of the government to the damage to arable land and roads and tracks caused by recent floods in Palpa constituency No 1 and called for flood control measures.
