Cooperation makes polls fair: Shaha

Biratnagar, July 12: Chief Election Commissioner Bishnu Pratap Shaha has said elections can be conducted as desired by the people only if all political parties commit themselves to make the elections healthy, transparent and rigging-free and if the bureaucracy is made impartial.

Mr Shaha made this remark while presenting a working paper on “improvement in election system” in an interaction organised by the Nepal Contemporary Study Centre here today.

The Commission adopted the policy of collecting voters lists and updating them simultaneously throughout the country, he added.

Similarly, Dr Ram Kumar Dahal, presenting a working apper on “possibility of improvement in elections approchase in Nepal”, remarked that the constituion proivdes the space for a political party to take reins of government even though it may be representing minority of the people.

Various individuals including former minister of state Radha Prasad Ghimire, CPN-UML central member Guru Baral and NC Morang district vice president Dilip Sapkota had given suggestions.
